ABSTRACT
This paper studies on vehicle body design base on CATIA software. Using this method helps designers
and automobile manufacturers quickly to make new car and optimal design. An advanced 3D modeling
was presented for creating high quality 3D geometry and reflection for cars and

version. This research was reviewed all step from the beginning to the end of the process design which
help the new researchers easy to follow step by step.
1. INTRODUCTION
-In this part, we will connect all component together and it will base on assembly to simulate
Fig.1. Main component
The excavators are one of the earth movers playing a major role in the development of the infrastructure
like excavation, road construction, building construction, granite mining, ore mining, Coal mining etc.
Excavators are generally equipped with a work implement or attachment for performing useful work. And
this report will figure out the Excavator simulation. How does it work and each component of it.
2. MODELING DESIGN
In Excavator, we have 2 kind of element: Active Element and Passive element
Active element: Front arm, back arm, bucket, body, hydraulic cylinder.
Passive element: Base, cabinet, arm support, exhaust.

Fig.2. Front Arm Fig.3. Back Arm Fig.4. Bucket
Fig.5. Body
– We have 3 kind of Hydraulic cylinder:
+ Boom Cylinder
+ Arm cylinder
+ Bucket cylinder
– Each cylinder have a different dimension because depend on angular and, its responsibility and your
design
Fig.6: Arm cylinder Fig.7: Boom Cylinder Fig.8: Bucket Cylinder
After Active element,we move to Passive element:

3. SIMULATION
This is an important part,it is decide the excavator simulation. So in this case,do it correctly.
Step 1: Create a new product:
Start Digital Mockup DMU Kinematics
In new Product,Click right mouse to ―Product‖ and choose ―Properties‖
+The table of ―Properties‖ will be shown
1389
+In ―Part Number‖,clear ―Product1‖,and change to Excavator Simulation
+ Then click ―Ok‖ to change Product name
Step 2: Existing component
After change Product name,we start to exsit component
+ We Click to the name ―Excavator simulation‖ for red color (Not blue color)
1390
+ In taskbar,we choose ―Insert‖ Existing component
+ Table ―File selection‖ will be shown and we choose all file which is excavator component
+ All the component will be shown
Step 3: Hide the component that is not necessary:
Step 4: Click ―Revolute Joint‖ to join Base and Body
Step 5: Join Body and Cabinet
Step 6: Body and Arm support
Step 7: Exhaust and Body
1391
Step 8: Join Back arm and Arm support
Step 9: From arm and Back arm
Step 10: From arm and Bucket
+ Choose ―Bucket ― File on the tree and show it
+ Choose ―Revolute joint‖ and choose two line as a picture
1392
+ And plane as a star position
+ But if you want to simulate, you have to choose an ―Angle Driven‖
+ If table ― The mechanism can be simulate‖ that you can simulate the excavator
4. CONCLUSION
This paper was shown the process of vehicle body design using CATIA which help the automobile makers
quickly to produce new car for future.
